CNA negotiations summary

UC and CNA: In partnership since 1983

The University and the California Nurses Association have a long-standing partnership and a 42-year history of successful and collaborative negotiation. UC and CNA begin negotiations for the NX contract in July 2025.

 

Highlights of the Current NX Contract

  • Across-the-board salary increases:
    • The 6% wage increase went into effect January 1, 2023.
    • The 5% wage increase went into effect January 1, 2024.
    • The 5% wage increase went into effect January 1, 2025.
  • One-time recognition payments:
    • Career nurses received $3,000
    • Per diem nurses who worked 50%-time or more received $2,000
    • Per diem nurses who worked less than 50%-time in 2022 received $1000

Increased paid leave for family care and bonding: Effective January 1, 2023, UC increased paid leave for family care and bonding from 70% to 100% for eight (8) weeks.

CNA-represented units at UC

The Registered Nurses unit (NX) is a systemwide bargaining unit represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA). It includes all non-supervisory, non-managerial registered nurses.

The University of California employs nearly 23,542 registered nurses who provide vital medical services at the five UC medical centers, 10 campus student health centers, and numerous outpatient clinics throughout the UC system.
